研究活動歴:

(1)高温ガス熱交換に関する研究(1974年より1984年)

 高温廃ガスや高温ガス冷却炉などで重要な要素機器である高温ガス熱交換器の性能を向上させるために,700℃以上の高温で著しくなるふく射伝熱を有効に利用した熱交換技術の研究開発を行った.

(2)スターリングエンジン用熱交換器の研究開発(1983年より1987年)

 外燃機関であるスターリングエンジンの重要な要素機器である熱交換器の性能向上のために,ふく射伝熱を有効に利用した熱交換器や流動層を利用した熱交換器の研究開発を行った.

(3)熱サイクル発電に関する研究(1980年より1990年)

 地熱発電や複合サイクル発電など,各種の発電サイクルおよび熱供給システムについて熱サイクル論に基づいて解析やシミュレーションを行った.

(4)粒子および生体組織による光散乱に関する研究(1983年より1996年)

 微粒子による光の散乱特性が粒子の密度に依存する,いわゆる非独立散乱現象について,その特性および発生条件を明らかにした.また,生体組織による光の散乱現象に関して,光拡散現象の基礎方程式を確立した.

(5)生体内熱・物質輸送およびレーザ治療に関する研究(1987年より現在)

 生体内熱輸送および物質輸送現象に関して解析および実験研究を行い,低温火傷に関する新しい知見を発見した.また,紫外光レーザであるエキシマレーザを用いて生体組織を加工する技術に関し,実験的理論的研究を行い,各種の成果を得ている.

(6)近赤外光の生体内伝播現象および生体の光断層イメージングとそれらの応用に関する研究(1988年より現在)

A.近赤外光を強く散乱し弱く吸収する生体内の光伝播現象をモデル化し,解析する手法を研究した.これに基づき,生体組織の光学特性値測定法に関する技術を開発し,頭部のような複雑な構造を持つ組織の生きた状態での光学特性測定を行った.また,生体組織の酸素化度の断層像を描き出す近赤外光を用いた断層イメージング法の研究を行い,新しいアルゴリズムの開発や基礎実験を実施して光学試料を用いた画像の再構成に成功している.

B.内視鏡等を用いた低侵襲治療技術に関する研究開発を実施している.特に,脳外科の手術中に用いる脳ヘラに近赤外光による組織の酸素状態モニタリング機能を組み込んだデバイスの研究開発を行っている.

C.皮膚の色の異常を,医用刺青によって治療するために,皮膚内の光伝播の解析やシミュレーション,実験を行っている.

D.グルコースなどの生体中の成分を光によって検出するために,生体に照射した光の反射・透過光のスペクトルを解析し,シミュレーションを行っている.
